RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Fatah leader Nabil Shaath is on his way to Gaza to join efforts to prevent an Israeli ground invasion, the PLO said Sunday.
President Mahmoud Abbas has instructed Shaath, a senior PLO official, to try and stop Israel sending ground troops to the Gaza Strip "through coordination with Arab Foreign Ministers and his extensive contacts with politicians around the globe," the PLO said in a statement.
Shaath is expected to arrive in Gaza on Sunday evening, through the Rafah crossing on Egypt's border.
"What we are witnessing is a criminal attack against our besieged people in Gaza. It has nothing to do with security and a lot to do with denying our people their inalienable right to self-determination," Shaath said.
