GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Hamas, Fatah and Islamic Jihad joined factions in Gaza for a meeting on Monday to discuss efforts to end Israel's war on the enclave.

Fatah official Nabil Shaath represented President Mahmoud Abbas at the meeting. He told Ma'an that Abbas sent him to Gaza to consolidate unity and end the years-long division between Fatah and Hamas.

"We are all with the resistance against the enemy and with the truce that would stop the aggression and lift the siege of Gaza," Shaath said after the meeting.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said that the meeting represented "a message for the international community that the Palestinian people are united against the aggression."

Abu Zuhri said the factions agreed to invite party leaders to a meeting to develop a plan to end Israel's attacks on the enclave.

In Qalqiliya on Monday, Hamas and Fatah supporters united in a mass rally to protest Israel's war on Gaza.
