BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- An Israeli military jeep came under fire from Syria in the occupied Golan Heights on Tuesday, the army said.

There was minor damage to the vehicle but no injuries, an Israeli army spokeswoman said.

Israel has filed a complaint to the United Nations, she added.

It was the fourth time fire strayed over into the Israeli-controlled part of the Golan Heights this month.

Israel said that Syrian soldiers may have been killed after it returned fire into Syrian territory in response to gunfire on Saturday.

Israel captured the Golan area in the 1967 war and later annexed it in a move never recognized internationally.

The UN has a peace-keeper force in the area monitoring a ceasefire in place since the 1970s.
