BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Palestinian National Initiative chief Mustafa Barghouti said Friday that Israel's shooting of civilians near the Gaza border violated the ceasefire agreement.
Israeli forces shot dead Anwar Abdul Hadi Qudaih, 20, east of Khan Younis on Friday. Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said 19 others were wounded by Israeli fire in the border area.
On Thursday, medics said four Palestinians were wounded by Israeli fire on Thursday near the fence. An army spokesman said 200 Palestinians approached the fence and "began rioting" before causing damage to the fence.
"This is a very serious violation of the ceasefire," Barghouti said in a statement urging the US and other mediators to pressure Israel to stop violating the agreement.
"If they are not stopped at once, Israel’s runs a grave chance of completely collapsing the tenuous truce," he said.
In Rome, Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Riyad Malki said the shooting was "a clear violation of the agreement and should not be repeated."
The Egyptian-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Gaza came into force late on Wednesday after eight days of fighting that killed 170 Palestinians and six Israelis.
