COLOMBO (Ma'an) -- Hundreds of people staged a demonstration in Sri Lanka on Friday to show solidarity with the people of Gaza, a Palestinian Authority diplomat said.

Anwar al-Agha, PA ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Republic of Maldives, told Ma'an Sunday that demonstrators had gathered in front of a municipality building in Colombo before marching through the center of the city.

Government officials, activists and representatives of various political parties joined the rally, al-Agha added.

The demonstrators carried banners denouncing Israel's recent assault on the coastal enclave and called on the international community to pressure Israel to end all aggression against the Gaza Strip.

Many protestors expressed support for the Palestinian bid to obtain non-member status at the United Nations and called for an independent Palestinian state.

Funny - the civil war in Sri Lanka made Gaza look like a picnic. Civilians were killed in the thousands.

#1 - Not funny at all - you think that civilians being killed in the 1000s elsewhere in the world, excuses Israel's slaughtering of a lesser number of Gazan civilians. It was no picnic for the people of Gaza, it was grotesque, just as you are for suggesting it!!

What I think is funny is that there were no demonstrations in Sri Lanka about the tens of thousands of civilians killed there. Take the beam out of your eye before telling someone about the mote in their eye. I suspect, because I know Sri Lanka very well unlike you, these were from the local Muslim community. They did not object to the tens of thousands of dead in their own backyard.
