BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- The teachers union in the West Bank will suspend classes on Nov. 29 as part of activities to support the UN bid for non-member status, a union official said Sunday.

Muhammad Suwwan, the union's secretary-general, told Ma'an that classes will be suspended after the third period in all West Bank schools.

He called on teachers, school children and scout groups to join activities in their towns and cities to support the UN bid.

Political factions will organize numerous activities across the West Bank in support of the bid, Suwwan said.

The Palestinian bid seems certain to win approval in any vote in the 193-nation general assembly and could also grant access to bodies such as the International Criminal Court in The Hague, where Palestine could file complaints against Israel.
