EL-ARISH, Egypt (Ma'an) -- Five African migrants en-route to Israel were seized by Egyptian forces in the Sinai peninsula on Wednesday, Egyptian security sources said.

The group was found crossing into Sinai from the city of Suez, where smugglers were waiting to transport them to the border with Israel, the sources said.

The migrants, from Guinea and Sudan, were transferred to the custody of security forces for questioning.

The fence along the 160 mile-long frontier with the Egyptian Sinai, which is still being built and is due to completed by the end of the year, is among measures introduced by Israel to bar African migrants.

Israeli ministers say the influx of African migrants is a threat to public order and could threaten the Jewish majority in the state of 7.8 million.
