GAZA CITY (Ma’an) – Israeli forces on Wednesday shot and injured seven Palestinians near the border in the central Gaza Strip, medics said.

Seven people were shot at east of al-Maghazi and al-Bureij refugee camps and transferred to the al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. One man sustained serious injuries, medical officials told Ma'an.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said "rioters" damaged the border fence and tried to enter Israel. She said soldiers acted to distance them "according to the rules of engagement" which can include opening fire.

Earlier, 27-year-old Hassan Ahmad Nseir was shot by Israeli forces near Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip while collecting iron and gravel, medics told Ma'an.

Israel had barred Palestinians from coming within hundreds of meters of the border, but agreed to ease curbs on Gaza in a ceasefire reached Nov. 21 to end its eight-day war on the enclave.

one wonders

Some people - either very brave, very stupid, or both - do not understand that provocation may result in consequences. Good decisions are the result of experience and experience is often the result of bad decisions.

You both (commenters below) will never understand or are in the Palestinians shoes. There is no reason to fight when no one is fighting. This is a very sad story. No one should pass ridicule and judgement

PLO/PA/UNRWA - Build a WALL on the border. Announce it, build it. Don't negotiate it. Every Israeli breach is an attempt to restart the missile assault and give an excuse for a ground assault. If they know the wall down, invite cameras and news crews to watch rebuilding.

why cant they approach their side of the fence? Is there a no-man's land on the Israeli side? No, thought not. And I thought Israel "gave back" Gaza!

To why #1, Outlier #2, and Matt #3. And that's what'll happen if you go too close to the Mexican border: as soon as you come within range, the Mexican army will shoot you. And people will demand to know 'what were you doing so close to the border?' Obviously, you were 'provoking' the poor innocent Mexicans....leave it to Zionists to take such a ridiculous position.

Maybe Ma'an could headline it if a day passes in which Israel DOESN'T violate her own ceasefire. In fact, it'll be news if Israel honors any agreement she enters into.

I think Israel needs to bone up on the concept of 'border.' Also, a study of the meaning of 'cease fire' seems to be called for. Finally, I'd suggest reviewing 'keeping your word.' ...but there. Israel wouldn't be Israel if she started thinking like that.

11 ) @ "why did they approach the" / fence

They approach the fence because they long one day to return to their home instead of being trapped in the prison of Gaza. They long for freedom

I was thinking of starting a pool: how many Palestinians will Israel shoot tomorrow? Now that there's a 'ceasefire' in place and all? I pick...one. Any other picks?

The defacto government really should make a deal with the PLO and PA and UNRWA to build a wall ala West Bank Wall in the Gaza border. Just Do It!

Keep in mind that this buffer zone is art some points hundreds of meters, even greater than a half mile. I'm sure they've shot at peopl who were unaware of being anywhere close to a wall.

The Israelis have demonstrated only too well the range of less lethal weapons available to them. There is therefore no excuse to be using live fire during a hard won CEASEFIRE.

What did the arabs expect when they cut the fence and illegaly entered israel? This is a war zone thanks to tbe jihadists so they were fired upon. Israel is far too soft on the arabs that are fueled by islamic hatred of jews. The sooner the arabs leave the holy land the sooner there can be peace.

...Can't resist tooting my horn. I won my own pool...Israel shot exactly one Palestinian on this eighth (?) day of the 'ceasefire.' Bets for tomorrow?

re John #17 ' Israel is far too soft on the arabs that are fueled by islamic hatred of jews...' There goes breakfast. Well, at least you're not from the US. You're an embarrassment to someone else.

"......they cut the fence and illegaly entered Israel" Who told you that - the IOF? Don't you recognise propaganda when you hear/see it? Don't be so naive John, they have to lie to cover up for their terrorism!
