Netanyahu: Palestinians must recognize Jewish state

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday said the Palestinians had to recognize Israel as a Jewish state and prepare to end the conflict with Israel.

"Israel is prepared to live in peace with a Palestinian state, but for peace to endure, Israel's security must be protected. The Palestinians must recognize the Jewish state and they must be prepared to end the conflict with Israel once and for all," he said in remarks in Jerusalem.

Netanyahu also elaborated on why Israel opposed the UN vote expected Thursday that would upgrade Palestine's status at the United Nations.

"The only way to achieve peace is through agreements that are reached by the parties directly; through valid negotiations between themselves, and not through UN resolutions that completely ignore Israel’s vital security and national interests. And because this resolution is so one-sided, it doesn’t advance peace, it pushes it backwards," he said.

He added: "As for the rights of the Jewish people in this land, I have a simple message for those people gathered in the General Assembly today: No decision by the UN can break the 4000-year-old bond between the people of Israel and the land of Israel."

Earlier Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said that Palestine's bid to upgrade its status at the UN "pushes both sides further apart."

In New York, Lieberman said that "Even though the Palestinians are guaranteed a majority of the votes in their favor, in reality they will end up being the greatest losers."

"This move only enhances the dispute and pushes both sides further apart," he said.

But former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said he backed the Palestinian bid.

Olmert told The Daily Beast website the "the Palestinian request from the United Nations is congruent with the basic concept of the two-state solution. Therefore, I see no reason to oppose it."

He added: "It is time to give a hand to, and encourage, the moderate forces amongst the Palestinians. (President Abbas) and (premier) Salam Fayyad need our help. It's time to give it.”

No, we will not recognize a state where its leaders make the life of Palestinians diffuclt. A state where they don't pay for what they have done. A state that won't allow us to go back and see our stolen land. We will not recognize a state who won't recognize us.

Ahmad Tibi is correct about "changing future negotiations", since though:
1- NETANYAHU says "the PA's statehood bid was meaningless",
he IS WRONG, since Palestine now exists at the UN General Assembly, and
2- ABBAS, with a "state that has sovereignty in ONLY Areas A & B and Gaza,
WILL HAVE TO DEAL WITH ISRAEL from the new REALITY he created, just
like any other two states, WITHOUT EXPECTING ANYTHING FOR NOTHING !!

Mr. Nutanyahu: We recognize that Zionist have established a racist entity for Jews only on stolen Palestinian land. We recognize this, but it is impossible to give it legitimacy. A bastard is a bastard, there is no way to change this fact. Just as the passage of time did not give legitimacy to Hitlers desire to rid Germany of its Jews to create a Aryan utopia, neither will the passage of time give legitimacy to Israels desire to rid Palestine of Palestinians to create a Jewish club med.

Both sides have many transgressions to forgive and much anger to let go. If they do, they will be neighbors: if they don't, then nothing will change.

# 7 - enlighten all of us on what you say Arafat was saying in Arabic to his "Pal" audience. What was said? You seem to know, so let us in on it - in other words put up or shut up # 10 - it is easy for the victor to say "let's forget the past". Not so easy for the victims. # 12 - Brian cohen - I expect you are laughing at that photo of Netanyahu again, trying his best to look like a certain Austrian . . . . Jewish state? Why? To discriminate against non-Jews of course. As they do now.
