BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- PLO official Hanan Ashrawi on Friday thanked the 138 UN member states that voted for Palestine's upgrade to a non-member state at the General Assembly.

"You have rescued the chances of peace by supporting the forces of reason and responsibility rather than the irrational and irresponsible exercise of force and violence," Ashrawi said in a statement.

"You have given us hope, and we pledge to work with you to make this shared world of ours more peaceful and humane."

Nine countries voted against the resolution on Thursday night and 41 members states abstained.

Ashrawi said the nations that voted for Palestine had "demonstrated courage and integrity by acting in accordance with the dictates of your conscience and integrity rather than the diktat of power and intimidation.

"The legal, political, and moral space of the State of Palestine—however long overdue—is a tribute to justice and the triumph of the human spirit in the face of adversity," she continued.

IF, as Abbas says, PALESTINE WANTS "to live in PEACE and security alongside the State of Israel", all it must do is STOP SHOOTING, attempting ABDUCTIONS of Israelis, and pointing Fajr-5 ROCKETS at Israeli cities, AND
THEN THERE WILL BE PEACE.
However, neither the UNGA, nor any international court, can give Palestine the borders that it claims, but never had, so if Palestine can NOT reach a negotiated borders agreement with Israel, it's sovereignty will not expand from Areas A/B and Gaza !!

3 ) Statehood / Realism

On "29 November 2012, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called on Israel and the Palestinians to find the political will and courage to move ahead with talks aimed at establishing a lasting peace between them through Palestinian statehood and security for Israel", while
1- NOT MENTIONING 1967 BORDERS EVEN ONCE, and
2- referring to refugees as just those "who trace their roots to
those displaced following the division of the Palestine mandate."

Ah people like Hanan with no democratic legitimacy talking absurdity. If anyone seriously believes Israel is or willing to engage in serious peace talks then you may be more stupid than you look. Hamas produced real concessions from Israel just last week through Armed Resistance & please remind us where the "Peace Process" has got us?
