GAZA CITY (Ma’an) – A Palestinian fighter affiliated to the military wing of the Islamic Jihad died Saturday morning in what the group described as “Jihadist mission.”

The al-Quds Brigades said in a statement that Ramadan Abu Hasanein, in the artillery division, died in the central Gaza Strip as a “martyr” while carrying out his duties.

The announcement did not elaborate on the precise cause of his injury, which came over a week after Islamic Jihad and other groups agreed to a ceasefire with Israel.

A day earlier Hamas' military wing said one of its fighters was killed when remnants of Israeli weaponry from the latest Gaza assault exploded in the northern Gaza Strip. Mustafa Ahmad Hijazi, 25, was killed in the explosion at a military site in Jabalia camp, the Al-Qassam Brigades said.

Eight other were wounded in the blast, including two in a serious condition, the group said.

On Thursday, an Al-Qassam fighter died of his wounds from the eight-day bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

More than 170 Palestinians were killed in the assault which ended last Wednesday.
