Canada to review ties with PA after UN vote

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Canada will review its relationship with the Palestinian Authority after the UN General Assembly voted to admit Palestine as a non-member state, the Canadian foreign minister said Friday.

"Canada is deeply disappointed but not surprised" by the General Assembly resolution on Palestine, John Baird said in a statement.

Condemning Palestine's pursuit of UN membership as unilateral and an "impediment to peace," Baird said its representatives to Israel and Ramallah would be summoned to Ottawa to decide Canada's response.

"Canada will now review the full range of its bilateral relationship with the Palestinian Authority," he said.

Canada joined Israel, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Palau, the Czech Republic, Nauru, Panama and the United States to vote against Thursday's resolution, which passed with 138 votes.

What does Canada expect the Palestinian to do,there are only nine countries voted against thursday resolution,none of those countries really count appart from the USA,the whole world want Palestine to be a state,and this is a step in the right direction for Palestinian independence.

John Baird is an embarrassment to the Canadian people. He does not support non-violent democratic action at the United Nations or democratically elected governments in Palestine. But he does support land theft and resource theft by Israel. Why is that John?

It shames me that my country of dual citizenship has the audacity to threaten Palestine at a time that the entire world has supported it in its quest for freedom, human dignity and democracy. This stance by Canada's corrupt government represents the self-centred interests of a few and not the great people of Canada who have been traditionally supportive of the Palestinian cause. Palestine should be the one to act as per its policy and expel Canada's hypocritical representative in Ramallah.

Hahahha Canada is very funny!!! Do they realy think we care what they think or what they do?? There are 138 who voted for our state..so Canada can cut the ties with us...we see it as a gift instead of a punishment ;-)

-a- CANADA SHOULD absolutely not cut ties with PA, and neither should the USA, or Israel, since talking is always helpful, BUT -b- Canada, the USA, and Israel should CUT ALL FUNDING to the PA, until trust is restored, starting with serious unconditional negotiations !!

BTW Palestine has NO Borders, Sovereignty Only in Gaza & Area A, Two Governments that agree on little, and in reality it only exists on UNGA & UNESCO stationary, so again in reality there is almost nothing of Palestine for Canada to have "ties with", and you should Drop the Fantasy, and "get used to it," that Palestine's statehood in 2012 will be hardly more successful than Palestine's Partition (UN Res. 181) in 1948.
