RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- President Mahmoud Abbas returned from New York, where he won a UN vote to admit Palestine, to cheering crowds in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Sunday.

Buoyed by the UN General Assembly vote to recognize Palestine as a non-member state, Abbas told thousands assembled outside the presidential compound: "We are now a state."

"The date Nov 29. is now considered a critical moment in Palestinian history," Abbas said.

"The world is with us, and history is with us, God is with us and the future is ours," he told the crowds.

East Jerusalem is now secured as the capital of the Palestinian state, he said, promising the vote would change many facts on the ground.

The vote for Palestine by 138 countries shows the forces of war, settlements and occupation have become even more isolated in the world, he continued.

Abbas said up until the last moment he was under pressure to change the content of his speech, but he refused.

Now, he said, there are several other issues waiting to be achieved, including reconciliation with Hamas. He thanked Palestinian parties for standing behind him with the UN bid.

... The territory covered by the new state, as per the same UNGA resolution, covers the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) as well as the Gaza Strip. This is a kind request that you update the labels on your maps to reflect the above (Including the location of all cities/locals in the said territory, to mention "Palestine" and not "West Bank" or "Palestinian territories" as previously referred to on the Internet. I trust that a respectable company like Google will respect and uphold...

-A- "The 1949 border otherwise known as the (Green Line)" did NOT involve Palestine, which did NOT even exist at the time, and -B- even the Kingdon of Jordan did NOT consider their Armistice agreement with the new state of Israel, as creating "defined borders" !!

Despite all the magnificent celebrations, euphoria, hand-shaking and joyous rounds of congratulations for U.N. Palestinian "nationhood," we in Israel once again hear the never-ending pompous hyperbole: E. Jerusalem is now secured as Palestine's capital. No, it isn't and never will be and its capital already is Amman, Jordan/Palestine and THAT is reality ... and no, nothing will change any facts on the ground as far as Israel is concerned. The hopelessness of false hopes remains: All fantasy.

Israel may may have allowed Abbas to return to Ramallah, but it will NOT allow him or other PLO, Fatah, or PA members into either Area C, Area E, East Jerusalem, etc., unless that privilege is negotiated, and it Never will be so negotiated, since Israel's agreement will be required.

Green Line refers to the demarcation lines set out in the 1949 Armistice Agreements between Israel and its neighbours (Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria) after the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. The Green Line is also used to mark the line between Israel and the territories captured in the Six-Day War, ....From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In a historic session of the United Nations in New York Thursday, exactly 65 years after passing the Partition Plan for Palestine, the General Assembly voted by a huge majority to recognize Palestine within the 1967 borders as a non-member state with observer status in the organization. Haaretz - News) this UN recognised status requires defind borders and the Green Line has determined such.

8 ) Yehuda Solomon; I would think that UNSC resolutions such as 242 and 338 would now be enforceable by NATO.

@ 18), Not unless there are mutual enforceability agreements between U.N. and NATO to enforce each others resolutions. If so, enlighten me. I know of no such agreements even though each organization's own resolutions or member covenants may overlap each other. So what's your point ??? ... NATO is a military alliance. You think the U.N. or Palestinians are going to beg NATO to use its military force to enforce #242/338 against Israel and NATO will do it ??? ... Please, don't make me laugh.
