GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A man from the Gaza Strip died on Sunday from medical complications resulting from an injury sustained in the first intifada, a family member said.

Issa al-Habbash told Ma'an that Ismail al-Habbash, from al-Nuseirat refugee camp, was shot in 1987 by an expanding bullet known as a dum-dum.

Ismail, who was 17 at the time, was hit in the abdomen and lost his kidneys and part of his intestine, spending the remainder of his life moving from one hospital to another Issa al-Habbash said.

Ismail al-Habbash spent the last 25 years of his life going from hospital to hospital. I've spent the last 25 years of my life raising a family and pursuing my pleasures and dreams. I see no reason for the sharp diversion in our fates. Is it character? Probably more circumstance. we need to find a better way forward --in which the particulars of the circumstances to which we're born do not so segregate our destinies. My sincere condolences to Ismail's family.
