GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Senior Hamas official Mahmoud al-Zahar on Monday urged Fatah members to join the armed resistance.

"Come to the program of resistance and stop wasting time and efforts, let’s put our hands together and carry the gun," al-Zahar said at a ceremony to honor the victims of Israel's war on Gaza.

"I tell Fatah members, those who want to participate on the ride of the victors and who want to celebrate and feel that he’s honored and carry the gun, we open our arms to them on the basis of resistance and to liberate Palestine, all Palestine, and those who want to do different than this we tell them we know our way, which is to Jerusalem," he added.

In recent years, Fatah has pursued a non-violent, diplomatic route to statehood, which has drawn harsh sanctions from Israel and increased settlement construction in the occupied West Bank.

The Gaza-based head of Fatah's al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, Hanan al-Qassas, said Monday that his fighters had joined forces with Hamas' al-Qassam Brigades during Israel's recent war on Gaza.

The military wings fought side-by-side in the war, building up good will between the factions, said al-Qassas, also known as Abu Jandal.

The 8-day assault ended with a ceasefire on Nov. 21 and was hailed in Gaza as a victory for the resistance.

A group of Fatah members who fled Gaza during fighting with Hamas in 2007 are expected to return to Gaza with their families on Monday, al-Qassas said, adding that more would return in coming months.

Only a good idea if Palestinians want to set statehood back another 40 years. Neither entity - Israel or Palestine - is going away and both need to deal with that reality.

WELL-SAID !!! This is 1 key reason why Palestinian "unity" will remain a fantasy and we will never recognize a (second) Palestinian nation west of that Jordan River: The never-to-die platform--despite any "softening" of Hamas' positions and "movement" towards Fatah--of war and "liberation" of all of historic (Ottoman Empire-bordered) Palestine against us for both sides of the Jordan River. So keep talking, Mahmoud al-Zahar, ... You're the best man on our side.

20 years of being on your knees, Taking part in fruitless negotiations hosted by Un-Honest brokers, Collaborating with your occupier, Suppressing meaningful resistance in the West Bank, Corrupt, Unelected officials running day to day lifes of Palestinians in the West Bank. One has to question how the Oslo Accords benefited everyday lifes of Palestinians? Al Zahar has a point!

Safe in Qatar, you can "hope Fatah members to join armed resistance", but
in the West Bank, Palestinians should NOT, unless want the Areas A/B where they live to endure much the same as Gaza recently endured**, as a result of the Islamic militants futile "armed resistance," that hardly harms Israel, but largely justifies Israeli actions !!!

** 150 dead, 1,000 injured, & infrastructure destruction

Believe me the next "war" between ISRAEL and Gaza will be fought to the DEATH!! No longer will ISRAEL cow tow to the feelings of the International community! They wil,l I truly believe unleash the entire power of their military! And this time not for just 8 days or 3 weeks but until the job is done! Zahar will be found in the rubble. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR!

Is your point is that Gaza and the West Bank are NOT part of the same state?? And if so, the UN was mislead before voting on the PLO's UN Bid, NOT only in Palestine's peaceful intentions, and intentions to negotiate, but in addition the UN should have voted on a 3-State Solution instead.

Why don't the people who are calling for armed resistance be honest and say what they really mean - The destruction of Israel. Instead of lying to the gullible international community about lands taken in the 1967 war. Unfortunately many in the free international community assume that everyone has the same values - They don't. If all Palestinians were to accept an Israel in some form, peace very quickly follow. The lands taken in 1967 were kept, to more easily defend Israel from destruction.
