LONDON (Reuters) -- British Foreign Secretary William Hague said on Tuesday that European sanctions against Israel in response to its latest plans to build settlements on disputed land were not an option.

However, he told parliament that he was in talks with other European foreign ministers about formulating "incentives and disincentives" to support US efforts to bring Israel and the Palestinians back to the negotiating table.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided to expand settlement building after the United Nations' de facto recognition of Palestinian statehood last week, and has brushed off international criticism of the move.

The land Israel plans to build on is seen as essential for a contiguous Palestinian state as envisaged by the internationally backed two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

"I don't think there is enthusiasm around the European Union ... about economic sanctions in Europe on Israel. I don't believe there would be anywhere near a consensus nor is that our approach. We continue to try to bring both sides back to negotiations," Hague said.

"Nevertheless, if there is no reversal of the decision that has been announced, we will want to consider what further steps European countries should take," he said.

France on Monday also dismissed the prospect of European sanctions on Israel.

Settlement building on land Israel captured in a 1967 war is considered illegal by most world powers and have routinely drawn condemnation from them.

I guess Europe can act when the Palestinians are completely surrounded by settlements and annexed and given second class citizenship. Then Europe could be proud of its creation.

Britain???????? Not looking at Israel sanctions? Of course not (which are biased) but all others looking at Israel sanctions If the Zionists think that this time they go ahead without punishing them, then the time will come and the time will witness. Finally the Palestinian also have the power of?the ICC. I personally see in the next century no longer Zionists Israel.

Do not look to others to help, stay on Jersualem issue only. UNGA Res. 66/18 says: "any actions taken by Israel, the occupying Power, to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the Holy City of Jerusalem are illegal and therefore null and void and have NO VALIDITY WHATSOEVER, and calls upon Israel to immediately cease all such illegal and unilateral measures;" Go to ICC with that. Get decision, then ask for NATO help if Israel refuses to comply. Stay focused on Al-Quds, the heart!

#1) Carlos, what about your cell phone, your TV, or all the high tech you rely on in the hospital if you get sick etc, etc. If it wasn't for Jewish genius you would be living in the dark ages.

Concerning previous comment from "LegalEagle": Adding strength to UNGA 66/18 with Jerusalem as the focal issue, NOW with statehood recognized, previous Security Counsel Resolutions 242, 338 etc. also can be enforced and should be added to any approach to the ICC. However Jerusalem needs to remain the focus. Settle that area as to these laws and the rest of the territories will follow suit. Do not make it the last issue as in the past. Make it first.

Thus declares the LORD who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him,
“Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes trembling to all the peoples around; and when the siege is against Jerusalem it will also be against Judah. “It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone, all who try to move it will be severely injured.
