PA to use new UN status to create 'international front'

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) – The Palestinian Authority will seek to take advantage of the qualitative support by some European countries against Israel’s policies in the Palestinian territory through creating an international front to urge countries to take more strict positions against Israel, says the Palestinian minister of foreign affairs.

Speaking to Ma’an in Bethlehem, Riyad al-Maliki said, “We can’t face the Israeli procedures single-handedly, so we will take advantage of the positive positions of countries and try to build an international front to exert pressure on the Israeli occupation and its expansionist policies.”

Al-Maliki added that the PA was not in a hurry “because we have previous commitments we don’t want to breach."

Legal and political options are being studied carefully, added al-Maliki. “It is all about logistic and administrative procedures such as the Palestinian passport design, and official correspondence between the state of Palestine and other countries. We are studying this very deeply to make sure we are not breaching previous commitments.”

He added: “The qualitative change in the European position would not have happened if we had not won recognition of a non-member state in the UN, especially in countries which have very strong relations with Israel.”

The situation is now different, he said, as these countries will not agree that Israel continues to violate international law.

Asked about the United States' possible punitive procedures, al-Maliki said all the threats came from the Congress. “They are talking about punitive procedures against the PA, and we are watching to see what these procedures are. So far, what happened was that Israel stopped transferring Palestinian tax revenue.”

He highlighted that the PA would ask the Arab League to activate the financial network Arab countries pledged.

SO HERE WE GO !!! ... Now the Palestinians are going to do whatever the hell they can to effect boycotts, sanctions, divestments and other political/economic pressures against us to alter our positions and stop settlement-building. Nobody realizes all this won't amount to a hill of beans as far as we're concerned. All of this plus 3 or 4 shekels will buy a cup of java. Does anybody think this Palestinian "nation" stands a snowball's chance of hell of ever being recognized by us ??? ...

"not in a hurry" Yes, be sure of what you are doing but UNGA 66/18 with strength of UNSC 242, 338, etc. must be acted upon soon in legal action. The world respects legal actions and even the US must comply if the courts rule against Israel, which they must since they are now, in light of PA State and borders, illegal. This was the grey area that allowed Israel to escape action in the past. With borders and PA State by UN mandate, this grey area is gone. 242, 338, etc. with 66/18 must prevail.

You're that on the Pal side "no body will accept what" Israel offers, but on
the Israel side, "no body will accept" 1967 borders, dividing Jerusalem, or refugee return either, so the two states of Israel and Palestine will remain what exactly what they are today:
1- a real UN member state, that controls E. Jerusalem, and Areas C/E, and
2- a UN "non-member observer" state, that controls Gaza and Areas A/B.

Abbas specified that security responsibility for the Palestinian Authority would be handled by a third party, suggesting the US-Europe military alliance NATO. Abbas outlined the government's acceptance of international forces from NATO or similar to the UNIFIL force operating in southern Lebanon playing a role in Palestinian security, as long as forces did not include one single Israeli, whether from the civilian population or the military.

Sounds as effective as the Black Friday boycott by employees of Walmart... For the most part they just put their job in jeopardy and accomplished nothing on the issues they wanted resolved.

Abbas wants to create an "International Front" before creating a Unified Palestinian Government by uniting with Gaza legitimate government?? It does not make sense.

The PA may create an 'international front', but Israel will Never -1- return to the insecurity of 1949 Armistice lines, aka the "1967 borders", regardless of anything a "front" may say or do, Nor -2- allow itself to be flooded with Arab refugees, and -3- until a "front" accepts that, Israel is fully capable of defending itself, while building settlement, and financially crippling the PA !!!

@14 ) Reality / Truth Do you really believe that the heart of security lies on it's borders? Just think about that, before repeat politicians...

This clearly is easier than talking to Israel. A non-starter towards true statehood.
