BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Switzerland has contributed $3.2 million to UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees said Friday.

The funds will support UNRWA's regular programs, and follows a Swiss contribution of $11.8 million earlier in 2012, the agency said in a statement.

"This is a clear example of Switzerland’s commitment to Palestine refugees. This donation is timely given the agency's tight financial situation and will ensure the continued delivery of regular services to refugees," said UNRWA chief Filippo Grandi.

UNRWA relies on voluntary contributions and is facing huge deficits due to insufficient financial support, a growing population of refugees and deepening poverty.
