GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Free and fair Palestinian elections must be followed by partnership and cooperation between factions, Hamas chief Khaled Mashaal said Sunday.

The Hamas leader made the comments during a public meeting of Palestinian political factions, civil society organizations and bereaved families in Gaza.

"Our brothers in Fatah, you started before us, and we are not your replacement but rather your partners. Old disagreements will never come back," Mashaal said, adding that reconciliation is a necessity.

"But reconciliation should not be at the expense of firm Palestinian principles," the Hamas chief stressed, adding that Egyptian sponsored reconciliation talks will take place soon.

There is much to be achieved for Palestine, Mashaal said, urging Palestinians to "prepare for liberation and stick to resistance and Jihad."

Hamas have reached out to Fatah after an eight-day assault on Gaza by Israeli forces, which was regarded locally as ending in victory for Hamas' military wing.

The parties have been locked in a bitter rivalry since Hamas won national elections in 2006. Amid worldwide tussles over allowing the party to take the reigns of government, Hamas ousted their Fatah rivals from the Gaza Strip the following year.

Since then, Gaza has been ruled by Hamas and the West Bank government controlled by Fatah.

Hello folks, this was just brought to my attention this morning, please view! We petition the obama administration to: Completely divest all support to the apartheid state of Israel Peacefully withdraw all support, military, monetary and political, from the apartheid terrorist state of Israel. This state is racist in nature and leads the world in its human rights abuses toward the indigenous people of Palestine. Considering the constant establishment of new settlements on stolen land

It's interested to see Greek Orthodox Archbishop standing next to Mashaal. Why did I say about this? Because Arabs and Muslims lied to their people that there is no Jewish heritage on that land. Look. You guys recognized this so-called Christian archbishop. So what's my point? Muslims of Islam knew that there was Crusaders. Crusaders used the Bible that were written by the majority of the JEWISH writers! Amazing! That means Jews did EXIST on that land before Islam ever arrived.

While Palestinian "unity" is being blabbered ad nauseam, here's what Israelite unity is actually doing: Going ahead full-blast with planning and building more settlements encompassing over 5000 new apartments, homes, hotels plus attached infrastructure in the W. Bank; advancing our electric, solar and natural gas production to supply our growing industrial needs; improving and expanding our water resources; boosting our agricultural capacity. Pal "unity ?" ... Try next century, if lucky.

Adrak - what land did Israel give back? Of that's right, the land they took but the UN said they must give back. And what a gift - totally enclosed by blockade, their fishermen not allowed to fish adequately in their own waters, their farmers not allowed to farm their most fertile land along the border, their factories not allowed to produce building materials to rebuild after demolition from Israeli bombs. Their kids killed playing soccer too close to the fence. # 3 - yes, and so did Arabs.

After peace agreements were signed, "Israel gave back":
- the entire Sinai peninsula to Egypt, and
- the entire Gaza Strip and Areas A/B to the PLO, and
Gaza's conditions today are a direct result of it's government's decisions,
- to violate the peace agreement with Israel,
- to use "fertile land along the border" for bombings and abductions, and
- to use "fishermen" & "building materials" for state-sponsored terrorism !!!
