NABLUS (Ma’an) -- The Palestinian Authority has officially agreed to allow a Hamas festival commemorating the movement’s 25th anniversary in the West Bank, an independent politician said Monday.

Khalil Assaf, who heads a Palestinian forum of independent figures, said Hamas would organize a festival in Nablus on Thursday.

Hamas leaders will deliver speeches, with the sanction of the Fatah-dominated West Bank government.

Hamas has already approved a Fatah festival in Gaza commemorating its 48th anniversary, Assaf noted.

Fatah in Gaza announced on Sunday they would organize a celebration under the banner 'statehood and victory'.

The parties, who split Palestine into separate governments in 2007 amid bitter fighting, had both clamped down on political activity by the rival party.

Since Gaza's Hamas rulers reached a ceasefire with Israel after eight days of fighting in November, the parties have started to lift some of the restrictions, raising hopes of reviving the stalled reconciliation deal of 2011.

With respect to all, as being a Palestinian, we must stop thinking in Fatah, Hamas, FPLP, FDLP, FIDA & etc... What about thinking in PLO, Palestinian National Council, Unity? Unity should not be a negotiable issue between Palestinians anytime! Why we stopped thinking in Palestinian People all over the world? When shall we have a strategic plan to include every Palestinian in it? We must study our history very well in order not to repeat our mistakes. We can do anything by one word......UNITY.

#1 It's "The Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC)" and the PFLP not "FPLP" but I agree with you. All of these organizations are under the umbrella of the Palestinian Liberation Organization and as such the PLO factions should stop thinking in terms of factional terms but rather think about what's good for all Palestinians as one united Palestinian civilization. These are good small gestures between Hamas and Fatah and they show good faith but I think there's still a lot of work to be made....

Agreed w/ No. 1 & 2! Nothing wrong with having different political parties but ALL factions/parties must agree to UNITY for the cause & while having different ideas & approaches, MUST act in concert to prevail. It is a just cause, and the cause is bigger than any party/faction. Appreciate efforts at reconciliation & moves toward cooperation. Now elections must be planned & gov't in Gaza rebuilt with help from all. No sovereignty w/o legitimate provisional gov't through elections, so get busy :)

#1,2,3: Political parties are one thing, but cults or street gangs more closely resemble what we have today. People ignorantly supporting this or that leader because they are Hamas, Fateh or whatever. Yellow flags, green flags, and today I saw guys hanging red PFLP flags on top of Christmas decorations in Ramallah. Isn't one flag enough? Political parties need to be banned in schools and Universities as a first step.
