BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian court on Monday sentenced two men from Bethlehem to 10 years hard labor for selling land to Israel.

The men are both from Husan village and were convicted of selling land in the West Bank to Israeli settlers.

The court said one of the accused, a 64-old identified by his initials F.H., brought papers from his brothers that gave him power of attorney to sell land inherited from their father, official news agency Wafa said. The land is located near the Israeli settlement of Beitar Illit.

The other defendant, named only as Y.Z., 49, worked as a contractor in the settlement and arranged for F.H to sell the land to a settler for $45,000.

The court suspended their sentences as the defendants wish to appeal, a Ma'an reporter said.

Very lenient - who says the PA isn't liberal? Besides, I thought Israelis only stole land?

So does this land belong to israel now? this puts a dent in the peace process with giving back land i would think

Mr. Filipe: Is it legal to sell a piece of land in Portugal to Spain and then it no longer belongs to Portugal, and comes under Spanish sovereignty? I beleive the would fall under the category of treason. Also, do you think its legal in Israel to sell land to a Palestinian from the west bank? You really need to grow a brain.

More proof that Palestine is an apartheid state. In Israel you can sell land to Arabs, but in Palestine it is illegal to sell land to Jews. Sounds like apartheid plain and simple. Then if you argue that you can only sell to a Jewish Palestinian and there aren't any Jewish Palestinians, that's simply proof that the Palestinians are ethnically cleansing to ensure no Jews. That's racist apartheid Palestine for you.

#4 "So does this land belong to israel now?" Well matt, Israel as a "law-of-the-jungle" kind of place just takes whatever it wants regardless of whether it's legal or not. So, it's academic. But, technically, the sales should be null and void. Think about it. Every innocuous thing we do, in lawful places like Australia and the US has a basis in law. Which means the state regulates just about everything we do...based on what it deems best for the country. Foreign citizens can buy real estate but

(contd.) within limits set by the state. But the idea that US property bought by a Chinese corporation becomes sovereign China outside the reach of US law is clearly ridiculous and part of the "limits" imposed by the state on any sale. Now, things in the West Bank are chaotic, given the illegal military occupation, but the government is still the PA...and the PA says in the best interests of Palestine there will be no land sales to settlers. It's fair enough. Settlers seem hardwired,

(contd.) in their crazy world, to assume that if they bought it, it's sovereign Israel...not property IN Palestine subject to Palestinian regulation and law...which would be self-evident in the normal world. It's pretty simple really. When the settlers have all gone (and in their new subsidised homes in Israel proper) and sovereign Palestine on the '67 line is a political reality, relations between the neighbour states will inevitably normalise. Insha'Allah.

#6 "More proof that Palestine is an apartheid state. In Israel you can sell land to Arabs, but in Palestine it is illegal to sell land to Jews. Sounds like apartheid plain and simple." Brian, Brian, Brian. It's not pilpul night at Yeshiva. What about some context? Palestine is a state under occupation by a cynical, voracious entity intent on gradually consuming it. Surely some extreme (wartime) measures against individuals selling off the land to the invader are highly appropriate. As for

They're awful. Violent, arrogant, braindead. They just steal, destroy and are generally vile. You must agree with that Brian. You're a feisty, argumentative guy but probably not completely an a****** and obviously far from stupid. You MUST find them appalling. Allah favours the compassionate. Also,

‘land’ is ‘real estate’ or ‘property’ owned by civilians, companies, trusts, corporations, banks, even Government Departments & institutions. In some countries, foreign companies and Government institutions can own ‘real estate’. It is their ‘property’, however it does not give them any sovereignty over the ‘real estate / land / property’, nor does it give them any ‘territorial’ rights. ‘territory’ belongs to the legitimate citizens of the ‘territory’ whether they own real estate or not.
