GAZA CITY (Ma’an) – A young Palestinian man was shot and injured Friday evening by Israeli soldiers east of Jabaliya in the northern Gaza Strip, medical officials said.

Gaza paramedics told Ma'an they evacuated a 19-year-old to Al-Awda Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip after he was hit by two live bullets in his feet near Abu Safiyya Hill east of Jabaliya.

They added that Israeli troops fired live bullets and tear gas canisters at Palestinians near the border area. One man suffered from tear-gas inhalation, they said.

An Israeli army spokeswoman told Ma'an that "IDF forces acted within the rules of engagement" but said she was unable to elaborate about why the soldiers opened fire.

Israeli troops have fired several times across the border since a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas went into effect in November.

The latest incident was Monday, when military vehicles crossed several hundred meters past the border near Khan Younis, but there were no reports of injury.

Israel has imposed a no-go zone on the borders, but agreed to stop targeting Palestinians in the area as part of the ceasefire, Gaza's government has said.

When a Palestinian was killed in the zone by Israeli forces a few days after the ceasefire, Hamas security forces deployed in the area to make sure Palestinians didn't approach the border fence.

PA needs to build a wall to keep out Israeli bullets. Build it exactly as the West bank concrete wall with deep foundations. Place it one meter inside Gaza. This kid was shot because he was seen, and in the current Israeli political environment, Walking while Palestinian is a capital crime.

Throw a toy gun over the fence and cover your tracks.

The PA is flat broke, so it can't build anything, and staying away from the fence makes more sense anyway, since they would just climb over a concrete wall, or use the wall's top as a place to fire bullets and rockets at civilians !!

#2 "STAY AWAY FROM THE FENCE. SIMPLE" No-frills, "meat-and-potatoes" punditry from matt / usa. But matt, how can Israel just tell the people of Gaza that THIS bit of Gaza is now OUR "no-go zone"? I mean having withdrawn from Gaza? I mean legally. Shouldn't an Israeli "buffer" be in Israel"? Can the USA declare 500 metres of Canada or Mexico a "no-go zone", enter at will and shoot any Canadians or Mexicans who happen to be there...IN Canada or Mexico? Does that sound right?

(contd.) Of course Israel, as the region's authentic, eccentric rogue state, does because it can...but isn't it kind of weird? And baffling they can get away with it? And have done for so long? Hmmm?

The prison fence around Gaza is built on Palestinian land. Palestine extends well beyond the invader's blockade, south, east, west, and north. Israel's only legal borders are those as declared in 1948 based on the UN maps of 1947. No other legal description of Israel exists.

As a legal state, Palestine enjoys a 12-mile offshore territorial limit and an offshore economic exclusion zone up to 200 miles. The economic zone is negotiable with her relevant neighbours. Israel's interest in this area is negligible except that legal Gaza Strip, Palestine extends as far north as Jerusalem (see 1947 Partition Map http://mideastweb.org/palestine_partition_map_1947s.jpg). Israel's offshore developments in much of this area is not legally defined.
