Official: Jerusalem among top Islam heritage sites

JERUSALEM (Ma’an) -- The heritage committee in the Islamic world recorded Jerusalem as the first location on the heritage list in the Islamic world, Ismael al-Tilawi said Sunday.
Al-Tilawi, the secretary-general of the Palestinian national committee for education, culture, and science said that this announcement came out after the third meeting of the committee which held in Tunisia.
Representatives of Tunisia, Egypt, Republic of Senegal, Republic of Niger, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as representatives of ISESCO, the Tunisian Ministry of Culture, and the National Heritage Institute participated in the meeting.
Al-Tilawi highlighted that the work of heritage committee came within the efforts of the Islamic institute for education, science, and culture ISESCO for saving cultural heritage.
The committee works to maintain historical monuments and nature reserves.
