NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Palestinian Authority workers in the West Bank city of Nablus will launch strike action this week in protest against unpaid salaries, the government employees union said Sunday.
PA employees will suspend work after midday on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the union said in a statement.
"During this difficult situation for the Palestinian people in general, and employees in particular, the situation has a reached a point that no one can stand.
"Employees have not been paid and there is no date set for workers to receive their salaries. The government must be held responsible and provide salaries for employees," the statement said.
Protests will be held until employees are paid the full amount of their salaries, it added.
Meanwhile, the head of independent political figures in the West Bank Khalil Assaf called on Palestinian banks to intervene to pay workers salaries.
Assaf told Ma'an that a number of banks have been contacted to help alleviate the financial crisis for PA employees.
The PA must take immediate action to pay employee salaries, he said, adding that he is awaiting a response from banks in the West Bank.
