BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command on Tuesday evening accused the Palestinian National Council of hypocrisy over its condemnation of their group leader's actions in Syria.
Earlier, the PNC said will address the case PFLP-GC leader Ahmad Jibril in the first future meeting in order to expel him and all others who contributed to the killing of Palestinians in Syria.
Husam Arafat, a member of the PFLP-GC political bureau said that the statement was incorrect, hypocritical and did not represent the entire PNC.
Arafat said most of the national factions in the PNC informed the PFLP-GC that they did not know any thing about the statement and it did not represent them.
He said the statement addressed dangerous and sensitive issues and called on the head of the PNC, Salim al-Zanoun, to be responsible and never allow anyone to use his position for political purposes.
Thousands of Palestinians have fled Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus amid weeks of fighting between rebels, backed by some Palestinian fighters, and forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad.
Jibril's PFLP-GC has fought alongside Assad's forces, but rebels say many PFLP-GC fighters have defected to join them. Jibril left the camp days ago, rebel sources said.
The PNC said it feared government troops would storm the camp and commit massacres, and called on the UN and the international community to intervene and provide urgent assistance to refugees.
Jibril's alliance with Assad has caused divisions within PFLP-GC and the resignation of several central committee members, who have criticized the group's leader for arming Palestinians
