TEL AVIV, Israel (Ma'an) -- Israel's army said Friday that two Palestinians breached the security fence of an army base north of Jerusalem and lightly injured a soldier after assaulting him.

Israel's Ynet news site reported that assailants sprayed him with pepper spray, overpowered him and stole his weapon. He sustained mild injuries and was treated by army medics, Ynet said.

The report quoted army sources describing a "serious security failure," and said though the motive was believed to be criminal it was being investigated as an "attempted terror attack."

This happens periodically. Either (1) Palestinian ninjas are able to break into Israeli bases, overcome poor helpless heavily armed soldiers, and take their guns, or (2) Israeli soldiers sell their guns to Palestinians and make up some story afterwards.
