BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) – Israeli forces on Friday forcibly dispersed a rally in Nabi Saleh village near Ramallah showing solidarity with Palestinian prisoners.

A Ma’an reporter said dozens of locals along with international peace activists rallied Friday in Nabi Saleh chanting slogans against occupation and settlement expansion and calling on Israel to free Palestinian prisoners.

Israeli soldiers arrived and dispersed the rally firing tear gas canisters, rubber-coated bullets and foul-smelling liquids at the protestors. Several people were hurt by tear gas.

As a result, young Palestinians pelted the soldiers with stones. The Israeli forces then closed the village’s main entrance preventing residents and vehicles from entering the village.

Similarly, in Bilin west of Ramallah, Israeli forces dispersed the village’s weekly rally against settlements and the separation wall. Israeli and international peace activists joined the rally which the soldiers dispersed by tear gas canisters and rubber-coated bullets.

A similar rally was organized in al-Maasara near Bethlehem. The rally was also dedicated to solidarity with hunger striking Palestinian prisoners Samir Issawi and Ayman Sharawna. The protesters also chanted slogans condemning the Syrian regime’s attacks on the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk in Damascus.
