HEBRON (Ma’an) -- Fierce clashes erupted early Monday in Beit Ummar in the southern West Bank after Israeli soldiers raided the town and detained two teenagers.

Nine Israeli military jeeps stormed the town at daybreak ransacking several homes, said Muhammad Ayyad Awad, a spokesman of the local popular committee. Soldiers detained Muhammad Ibrahim Abu Mariyya and Ayham Khalil Sabarna, both aged 17, he added.

An Israeli military spokesman said forces detained two people in Beit Ummar, as well as five others across the West Bank.

Awad said local youths threw stones at soldiers in Beit Ummar and troops responded with tear gas and stun grenades. Forces ransacked the homes of Hussein Muhammad Shuqdam, Muhamad Abdul-Hamid Abu Mariyya and Munthir Yousif Shuqdam, he added.
