EL-ARISH, Egypt (Ma’an) -- Egyptian authorities seized a ton and a half of hashish in a car heading to south Sinai after leaving Cairo, security sources said on Tuesday.

Egyptian security forces said that the owners of a tunnel were informed that there was an attempt to distribute hashish in the Sinai. The tunnel is located between Suez and the Sinai.

Security sources highlighted that the targeted car arrived to the Hamadi tunnel at midnight on Monday. During a security check, the car was stopped and inspected. Security forces found an iron tin welded in the car's body. This tin has 28 cartons that contained about 1,400 kg of hashish, allegedly to be distributed in the south.

Police said an unspecified number of unidentified suspects confessed during interrogation.
