Abu Marzouq: Abbas should pass PA to Hamas

JERUSALEM (Ma’an) -- Hamas’ deputy politburo chief Mousa Abu Marzouq on Monday called upon President Mahmoud Abbas to pass the Palestinian Authority to his Hamas movement.

In an interview with the Israeli Haaretz newspaper this week, Abbas warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, "Sit in the chair here instead of me, take the keys, and you will be responsible for the Palestinian Authority."

"I won't do anything as long as there are diplomatic negotiations," he said. "But if the stalemate continues...what's left for us to do?"

On his official Facebook page, Abu Marzouq wrote: “Why would he pass the keys to Israel?” Playing on the proverb “Charity begins at home,” Abu Marzouq wrote, “Authority begins at home.”

He should have threatened to pass the PA to Hamas, the Hamas official said, as Hamas has managed to survive the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip, and achieved victory in several wars waged against the movement.

Thus, he argued, Hamas is qualified to make another success in the West Bank, and that would be the best way to achieve reconciliation too.

Nour I usually concur with your sentiments but not here I'm afraid. I can't fathom why people like you hold the Islamist faction with such contempt. It's as though Hamas & Islamic Jihad are Sub - Contractors of Israel.

Actually it makes sense. Hamas did win the elections, and they should have the opportunity to Govern. Although they first need to meet the requirements of the International community, so the people of Palestine are not punished because of their leaders unwillingness to compromise.
