SHARM AL-SHEIK (Ma’an) -- Egyptian military sources said Monday that Egypt had detained a former Israeli officer who entered the country illegally.

Andre Pshenichnikov, 24, was taken for investigation after he tried to sneak across the border, the military sources said.

Pshenichnikov told the military he is affiliated to a pro-Palestinian group. A former sergeant in the Israeli army, he was living in a refugee camp in Bethlehem in 2012 when he was arrested by Palestinian Authority security forces and transferred to Israeli custody.

Andrei Pshenichnikov is a true hero. Born in Tadjikistan of Russian descent he grew up in Israel, but came to hate Zionism. PressTV made an interview with him this summer in Paris (on youtube), see also Haaretz June 14th (Nir Hasson), Mondoweiss June 15th (Ira Glunts). Andrei joined many demonstrations in the West Bank and has declared sympathy for the PFLP :-) He wants to become a Palestinian citizen, and to live in Gaza, as the collaborators in the WB handed him over to the Shabak twice.

I have nothing but respect for Andrei. He is a true human rights acitivist. I hope Egyptians treat him well and release him. I am not sure he should go to Gaza. If I was Hamas I would be suspicious of him because israel is always sending spies.

palestinians in the refugee camp where he stayed have said that a number of their comrades were arrested by the IOf after speaking with andre. they say that they started suspecting he was a mosad and trying to collect info on activists, the owners of the house where he was staying kicked him out and he was not welcome anymore in the refugee camp. so jihane, u think a mosad spy will come and tell a group of palestinian activists he is a mosad?? he will pretend to be po-palestine to infiltrate

To N? 5 : Do acknowledge that it is very unlikely that th at the Israeli secret service spying a West Bank refugee camp would be the Mossad. Much more important, they certainly have chosen less striking elements to spy for them. I know Andrey personally, he is sincere and brave. I believe the PA, under pressure, had to find a pretext to explain why not give shelter to him, hence slander.
