HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian worker on Saturday who was attempting to cross into Israel, Israeli medical sources said.

Uday Kamil Muhammad Darawish, 21, was attempting to cross the border in an area south of Hebron when he spotted an Israeli military patrol and began to run away.

Darawish, from Dura, worked in Israel but did not have a permit.

He was shot in the back by Israeli soldiers and evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, Israeli medical sources said.

An Israeli army spokesman told Ma'an that "a man attempted to infiltrate Israel through its security fence. Soldiers at the scene acted in accordance with IDF rules of engagement and fired at his legs. The incident is currently being investigated."

Initial reports said that Darwish was injured after falling over while trying to escape.

Shot in the back!!!!!!!!!!! What else can you say. Another cold blooded killing by the IOF. Obviously he wasn't a threat because he was running away. Getting shot just to try and go work for some tiny wages. Unbelievable. He cant make a living in Hebron because of the occupation and if you try to leave and seek opportunity you are shot in the BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Israeli cowards. I hope ALLAH'S JUDGEMENT COMES SOON. TO HELL WITH THE "PA SECURITY THUGS" Who do nothing while people are shot.

The Israelis are going to turn Palestine into small ghettos - they should remember *their* history before being the cruel occupier who treats human life other than their own less than an animal.

"worker"? What kind of "worker" tries to infiltrate the border of another (alien) country? To the kind, niave Talkbackers: Israel has had enough of Arab terrorism and will continue to take harsh steps to protect its citizens. This is as it should be.

#8 "Israel has had enough of Arab terrorism and will continue to take harsh steps to protect its citizens. This is as it should be." That's pretty vile Robert. You know he was a 21-year-old who worked in Israel without a permit, saw a military patrol and ran. He was no danger to anyone. There was no "Arab terrorism". If it's now "in accordance with IDF rules of engagement" to shoot an unarmed kid in the back, and you find that "as it should be", your evil cult/state just sank even lower.

To Haymond @ 8. You are trying to deceive the naive readers. Thousands of Palestinian workers try to make a living by crossing into Israel illegally and find a day's work. Your attempt to depict this Palestinian as a terrorist is transparent and disgusting. This was a young Palestinian man, who was shot in the back, running away. There haven't been any attacks on Israel, let alone suicide attacks, for years. We will not forget this war crime. Justice will be served in future: in the Hague.

Entering any nation illegaly is a serious crime. How much more so when a person is illegaly entering a nation in a state of war- as Israel legally is- and entering through a flaw in a Security Barrier erected only in the areas most prone to terrorist infiltration? Yes, he was "only" trying to enter so as to work but the IDF hasn't yet perfected its mind reading skills. Shot in the back actually was "shot in back as he fell." Just a bit different, right?
