GAZA CITY (Ma’an) -- Several Israeli military vehicles breached the border with the Gaza Strip on Monday morning, but no confrontations were reported.

Locals told Ma'an the vehicles were scanning agricultural land east of Khan Younis, in south Gaza. Farmers immediately evacuated their fields, fearing troops would open fire, they said.

An Israeli military spokesman said the troops were conducting "routine activity" in the area.

Israel had barred Palestinians from coming within hundreds of meters of the border, but in a November ceasefire deal agreed to ease curbs on Gaza.

It is only routine for Israel to militarily breech someone else's border////

Anywhere else this would be regarded as invasion and grounds for retaliation in self defense...as I'm sure it would be if the State of Palestine (in Gaza and the West Bank) conducted "routine activity" (with tanks!) in sovereign Israel...or ANY incursion whatsoever over the border. (I imagine a stray kite from Gaza would spark an international incident.)

"Scanning agricultural land" - self-defence against those oh-so-dangerous carrots and potatoes?

These frequent incursions may be an attempt to provoke Hamas to retaliate and hence give Israel an excuse to subject Gaza to another Guernica, or checking for minefields. Sanctions should be imposed on the out of control State of Israel until they observe UN. Resolutions.
