RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces arrested two people in al-Bireh overnight Monday, including the former mayor of the city, locals said.

Sheikh Jamal Tawil was detained after Israeli forces raided his home and confiscated two computers overnight, witnesses said.

Another man, said to be a member of Hamas, was also arrested.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said four people were arrested overnight, with no reports of detentions in al-Bireh.

Tawil was arrested by Israeli forces during the first Intifada and held for several months under administrative detention without being charged.
