GAZA CITY (Ma’an) -- Israeli authorities will release one of the longest-serving prisoners from Jerusalem after 25 years in custody on Sunday, the Palestinian Authority said Saturday.

Jihad Obaidi was detained in 1988 and spent time in six different Israeli prisons, the PA prisoners ministry said.

A ministry report said Obaidi suffered mental and physical abuse in Israeli prisons due to his affiliation with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

While in jail, Obaidi studied politics and economics via Hebrew University after a 1992 hunger strike demanding the right to education.

Good for him and freedom is sweet and we are glad that even under harsh conditions , Obaidi opted to educate himself.

I second JoeUSA/USA comments! He showed how much better he is than the israeli occupier/abusers.
