EL-ARISH, Egypt (Ma'an) -- A 20-year old woman killed her mother and stepfather on Saturday after setting fire to their apartment in the Sinai peninsula.
Police and firefighters were alerted to the incident after reports of a house-fire in a Sharm el-Sheikh neighborhood.
The unidentified 20-year old woman was interrogated by Egyptian police, who told them at first that a masked man had knocked her down before setting to the home and running away.
She then confessed to the arson attack, telling authorities that she decided to kill her parents after suffering emotional problems following an unsuccessful relationship.
After an unsuccessful suicide attempt, the woman poured petrol around her parents house and set it alight, leaving the home and locking the front door, police said.
Egyptian police confirmed that a man and woman had died in the fire after suffering first-degree burns.
