RIYADH (Ma'an) -- Saudi Arabia will contribute $20 million each month to the Palestinian Authority, while Israel continues to withhold Palestinian tax revenues, a Saudi official said Saturday.

The Kingdom's envoy to the Arab League, Ahmad Qattan, told Saudi daily al-Wafd newspaper that the country had originally decided to give $14 million monthly, but has now raised the contributions.

The Arab League last year pledged to cover $100 million in monthly expenses to the PA, when Israel seized tax revenues in the aftermath of the UN vote for Palestinian statehood.

Most members have still to pay, but PA premier Salam Fayyad said Thursday he sees signs the financial crisis will be solved next month.

Saudi Arabia also contributed $100 million to the PA earlier this month, shortly after which the government made partial payments to its employees.

Civil servants have carried out periodic strike action over months of delayed salary payments.

Al hamdulliah (Praise be to Allah (God)). We all have a collective duty to support Palestine and the Palestinian people. May all those from the Arab League who have pledged money not only pay the money they owe quickly, but increase their pledges too in shah Allah (God Willing). May everyone else work towards alleviating the suffering of Palestinians by whatever means possible, and towards ensuring the rightful recognition of the land of Palestine, and a return to it of the exiled Palestinians.

Whereas I praise the expression and heart of 1), I am more inclined to be of the skepticism of 2) and 3). Where is someone like Ghandi who lived no higher than the people? Someone who really believes and stands with the poor of the flock and from that standpoint represents and governs. One who can produce at anytime a ledger he holds with him showing what he has spent and why. I am telling you this is the type of accounting we need in the world. Can Pals be such? Dare to dream dear friends!!!

The soundbytes we hear and see appear appropriate. The watching world will know by their actions whether it was just for the PR photo that the soundbytes were issued! Wait and see! Zakhat (charity) is only for jihad, NOT to ease fellow "believers" quality of life. Examples of that are what is happening in Syria; what is happening in Egypt; the measly zakhat $$$ OIC nations contributed to the tsunami in Aceh Bondi in 2006 & etc.

You're right that "we all have a collective duty to support Palestine," but the burden has been carried by too few for too long, and now with Israel holding the money that should go to the PA, and if Saudi Arabia contributes $20 million to PA each month, then it will be like: -a- Saudi Arabia contributing the Money directly to Israel, and -b- Saudi Arabia contributing the Money instead of the USA & EU, which should satisfy the PA, Israel, the USA, the EU, and everyone else too !!!

I hope that PA will ensure that interest is added by the Israelis when they do finally return their tax money. Israelis are using Palestinian tax receipts to ease their own financial crisis under the false banner.
