RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Three Palestinian youth were shot and injured Sunday evening in clashes with Palestinian security forces in the al-Amari refugee camp near Ramallah.

The men were wounded by live ammunition in the legs, Palestinian medics said.

Clashes broke out after a group of youth closed the main road between Ramallah and Jerusalem during a demonstration in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

PA police officers and national security forces deployed to reopen the road, and protesters pelted them with stones.

Police fired into the air and then directed fire at the protesters' legs. Palestinian forces declared the area a closed military zone.

Medics said two police officers sustained moderate wounds as they were hit by stones in the head, and at least 15 others were treated for bruising.

One of the protestors told Ma’an that they were showing sympathy with Palestinian prisoners held in Israel’s Eshel prison who he said had suffered torture.

A large number of the inmates in Eshel prison are from al-Amaari refugee camp, he said.

That armed and disciplined citizen's militia is looking better and better. Why should autocrats have all the guns?
