HEBRON (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces fired tear gas and sound grenades at a funeral procession in southern West Bank town Beit Ummar, a local activist said.

The town had gathered to mourn Fayqa Ikhlayel, a female resident in her 50s, when soldiers tried to direct the procession down another road, local committee spokesman Muhammad Ayyad Awad said.

Forces fired tear gas and some youth threw stones at the soldiers, but no injuries were reported.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said around 100 Palestinians hurled rocks at forces, who responded with riot dispersal means.

'Israeli soldiers disperse funeral procession, no injuries' That indeed is newsworthy. What went wrong?

Jesus! Can't a little town hold a funeral procession in honour of someone without being told what street to go down leading to a brouhaha of stone throwing, (demonstrably lethal) "riot dispersal means", ie. tear gas and sound grenades...for which the soldiers clearly came prepared? Rhetorical question. Answered by the article: no, a little town can't, not here at least.

Riot dispersal methods and tear gas at a funeral; stay classy IDF.

Do you really think that Israel cares which street they choose? They took to the main highway and stopped all N/S traffic. It's all aiming at gaining propaganda points.

#4 Not entirely clear whose side you're on, what your point is or who's "aiming at gaining propaganda points". The fact that you're anonymous might be a giveaway. Seems to me it's THEIR town (in THEIR country...OCCUPIED country) and they can stop all the traffic they like if the event is important enough. Traffic control with "tear gas and sound grenades", and in someone else's country, is SO Israel.
