TULKAREM (Ma'an) -- The medical situation of a former prisoner is deteriorating after he joined a hunger strike in Tulkarem protesting Palestinian Authority policies, an activist said.

Mohammad Sabah, a spokesman of former prisoners on hunger strike, said that Mosaab Abu Tanin's life was in danger, and the PA ministry of prisoners affairs was responsible.

Sabah, Samer Salah and Bassam Mari set up a protest tent outside the PA's detainee affairs office in the northern West Bank city on Sunday demanding financial assistance usually afforded to ex-detainees.

Abu Tanin joined the hunger strike days later.

"The Palestinian ministry of prisoners failed to carry out their duties concerning the cases of former detainees," Sabah said.

He said Abu Tanin was suffering low blood pressure and blood sugar, and was refusing to take medications.
