HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Fifteen members of a newly formed political party announced Tuesday that they are renouncing their ties to the group.

The Haris, or Guard, party was formed by former PA Chief of Justice Sheikh Tayseer Tamimi in December, but the Palestinian Authority Ministry of Interior said the party was not licensed.

Fifteen Haris members said in a statement that the party was illegal and they have renounced their membership.

"We inform the official sectors, non-official sectors, private and public institutions that we have nothing to do with the Haris party, and we do not belong to it," they said.

Tamimi, founder of the party, told Ma'an that two of the members were trying to discredit the party's reputation and he has filed a complaint to the public prosecutor.

The two members in question were dismissed from the party on Jan. 14, he added.
