RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Palestinian Authority Finance Minister Nabil Qassis met with Middle East Quartet envoy Tony Blair in Ramallah on Monday.

Qassis called on the Quartet to intervene in the PA's political crisis and pressure Israel to release Palestinian tax revenues withheld since last November as punishment for the UN's acceptance of Palestine as a non-member state.

The minister stressed that financial support must be provided to the PA to help meet its obligations.

The Ramallah-based government has been hard-pressed to pay more than $300 million in monthly expenditures since Israel announced it would confiscate $100 million dollars it collects in customs taxes on their behalf each month.

Full salaries for public sector workers have not been paid in almost three months and government initiatives to increase revenue by collecting years worth of electricity and water bills from the public have been hampered by street protests.

Do not waste time with Blair. He has only his own self interest in mind. When was the last time he had a good look at the effects of the occupation on, for example, East Jerusalem ....... he actually has his offices in the American Colony Hotel, ten minutes walk from the Old City Damascus Gate ................................... answer?? Never. What a bluffer, making millions for himself. What possible experience of poverty and suffering can he bring to the PA !!!!!

That's strange, I don't see myself sitting anywhere in that photo.

#1) Philip, don't be so cynical. We all like to make a bob or two!

Now; "confiscate $100 million dollars" aren't words we like to use. The money was delayed whilst terms of receipt were clarified. You see, there had been some misunderstanding on the PA side concerning the Oslo accords 'mutual obligations'. My old mucca Abbas got it into his head he was getting all those spondulas just because we liked him.
