GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Six family members, including four children, died early Thursday in a house fire east of Gaza City, medics said.

Hazem Mahmud Dahier, 32, his wife Samar, 30, and their children, 4-month-old Qamar, Farah, 3, Nabil, 5 and Mahmud, 6, were killed in the fire, medics said.

Civil defense officials retrieved the bodies from the home in the al-Shujaiyeh neighborhood. They said the fire was caused by a candle.

Lynn / USA. If the candle was made in Israel then the family died as martyrs. So it was not a joke but something which needs to be thought about seriously. If there is any extended family that they can collect blood money from the Saudis or some other Arab country willing to pay for martyrdom. Syria used to but they are too busy killing each other now.

@ Henri: Not an Israeli-made candle, but an Israeli-made power shortage. On the first day of the 2006 bombing of Gaza, Israel bombed the only electrical power plant in the Gaza Strip, and again in the summer 2011 (a retaliation for the Eilat-attack of which Gazans had no responsability). Due to power shortage, the electricity is cut of in Gaza on a daily basis. Good documentary: "Left in the Dark". www.aljazeera.com/programmes/aljazeeraworld/2013/01/20131710543138417.html

So long as Israel insists on exerting actual sovereignty over Gaza (which it does, whatever it may say), it remains the occupying power, and so long as it remains the occupying power, the responsibility for the shortages that led to this remain hers. Israel's welcome to renounce all attempts to restrict the independence of Gaza. Until she does that, though, she remains the responsible party here.

Well Henri it is a fact that if the electricity would have been on they would still be alive!!! So yes, Israel with it's inhumane siege is responsible for the death of this family!
