LONDON (Ma'an) -- Israel is considering to build a buffer zone reaching inside Syria to protect itself from fundamentalist rebels on the other side of the border, The Times reported Sunday.

The proposal is intended to secure the 47-mile border against a growing Islamist threat if President Bashar Assad’s embattled regime loses control of the area, according to the report.

It said the buffer would be modeled on the Lebanese security zone, which Israel patrolled jointly with the South Lebanon army 16 miles inside Lebanon from 1985 to 2000.

“We’ve presented the prime minister with a comprehensive plan to defend Israel’s border after, or perhaps before, the fall of Assad’s regime,” a military source is quoted as saying.

Israel could even a Druzastan, and unify the Druze community that is divided by the border, and - the Druze could Claim Statehood, just like the Palestinians, and - the Kurds, divided by the Turkey, Sryia, & Iraq borders could too !!

4 ) Buffer zone is called Golan / Australia

The buffer zone is called Golan Heights. The IDF "pre emptively" invaded it in June 1967.

Nice to know that they still consider land annexation of a sovereign neighboring country totally legal. Want to defend your border? Then put your border inside your own country.

This would be just a land grab if it happens. Strategic geographical depth , in the age of missiles , is a moot issue . The threat of missiles transcends such small distances. Try a just peace , that is a better sure way to insure security and peace.

Another buffer zone? Isn't that another invasion of foreign territory? Well at least it is true to form: once a thief, always a thief.
