RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- A committee of Hamas and Fatah officials will meet this week in Cairo to follow up a reconciliation deal to end political divisions, officials said.
The reconciliation committee will sit on Wednesday with Egypt officials, the brokers of the stalled 2011 accord to end the division of the West Bank and Gaza, Fatah official Azzam al-Ahmad told the official Palestinian TV station Sunday.
The meeting will prepare for another summit this week, that of the PLO reform committee, al-Ahmad said.
The PLO reform group will convene in Cairo on Friday, speaker of the Palestinian National Council Salim al-Zanoun announced Monday.
Al-Ahmad said consultations over the make-up of an interim government to oversee elections will begin next Monday, in tandem with the Central Elections Commission’s first day of updating electoral registers in the Gaza Strip.
President Mahmoud Abbas will head the interim government which will be made of nonpartisan technocrats, he said.
