GAZA CITY (Ma'an) – Hamas will never give up the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homeland, Gaza Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh said Monday.

"Those who abandon the right of return are not part of us. I say that I am from Asqalan, and I will return to my hometown," Haniyeh said at an event to welcome solidarity activists to Gaza.

"We will fight for the return of refugees."

Around 150 activists arrived in Gaza as part of the Miles of Smiles aid convoy, which Haniyeh said was evidence that Israel's blockade had been defeated.

Haniyeh said Israel besieged Gaza to cast the enclave into oblivion, but instead the siege became a bridge, bringing people to the enclave.

The premier listed Hamas' victories since taking control of the Gaza Strip in 2007. "Gaza triumphed in the war Israel waged against it in 2008, then another triumph was made in the prisoner swap deal," he said.

Meanwhile, Miles of Smiles coordinator Issam Yousif said more convoys would travel to Gaza, adding that activists from Bahrain, Algeria, Libya, Jordan, Sudan, Indonisia, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Canada had joined the latest group.

We absolutely know Ismail Haniyeh speaks the truth about supporting the Palestinian Right-of-Return. That is a major reason why it was a huge mistake for us to leave Gaza and (among other reasons) why we must return. We also support the Palestinian Right-of-Return ... TO Jordan/Palestine, where all Palestinians have the right to go and be accepted as citizens. It doesn't matter what you call it ... Miles of Smiles; Miles of Piles; Piles of Smiles; Light-Years of Seers; etc. ... No difference.

Bravo! As a WASP(White Anglo-SaxonProtestant)secularChristianAmerican, I also believe Palestinians should NEVER give up their right of return to their homeland. The Palestinians have suffered, the same way our N/American First Nation peoples have. There is NOTHING for Palestinians to concede. They have ALL INTERNATIONAL laws,UNResols, global consensus behind them.USG,UKG,EU&UNGA know where Israel belongs &it's BACK West of the partition line,&can take its wall with it! NOT AN INCH,OR DUNHUM,MORE!

Understandably popular (with Palestinians) position, but right of return will disappear under the eventual negotiated peace. It is either that or a potential Palestinian state in permanent limbo.

Israel apparently has forgotten that their entry in the United Nations (UN resolution 273) was granted on the basis that they said they would abide by res. 194 - (right of return of refugees). They then almost immediately repudiated that promise, and have done so ever since.

Hamas should never give up the right of return and Fatah, PFLP and the rest of the factions should never give up this inalienable right either. Rusian, Polish and American Jews with no connection to this land whatsoever are given the right of return. It is complete hypocrisy that those who were born here are denied these same rights.
