Hezbollah says bombing allegations are Israeli smear campaign

BEIRUT (Reuters) -- Hezbollah dismissed on Wednesday Bulgaria's accusation that it carried out a bomb attack that killed five Israeli tourists last year, saying Israel was waging a smear campaign against it.

Deputy Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem said Israel was directing "allegations and incitements and accusations against Hezbollah" because it had failed to defeat it militarily.

Bulgaria said on Tuesday the Lebanese movement was behind the bombing on a bus in the Black Sea city of Burgas that killed five Israeli tourists in July.

The conclusions of the investigation, citing a clear connection to an attack on European Union soil, might open the way for the EU to join the United States in branding Hezbollah a terrorist organisation.

In Berlin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel called for action if it emerges that there is solid evidence linking Hezbollah to the attack.

"Chancellor Angela Merkel completely condemns the disgraceful attack in Burgas," her spokesman said. "If there is confirming evidence that Hezbollah is responsible for this detestable attack, there must be consequences."

Qassem said Hezbollah, which fought an inconclusive 34-day war with Israel in 2006 and is now a powerful part of Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati's government, would not change course or be deflected by the charges.

"Israel is leading an international campaign to intimidate people and countries against Hezbollah," he told religious students in southern Beirut.

"All these accusations against Hezbollah will have no effect, and do not change the facts," Qassem said. "We will not submit to these pressures and we will not change our priorities. Our compass will remain directed towards Israel."

Mikati has said his government is ready to cooperate with Bulgaria in investigating the attack.

israel has a history of false flag events. The Lavon Affair refers to a failed Israeli covert operation, code named Operation Susannah, conducted in Egypt in the Summer of 1954. As part of the false flag operation, a group of Egyptian Jews were recruited by Israeli military intelligence for plans to plant bombs inside Egyptian, American and British-owned targets. The attacks were to be blamed on the Muslim Brotherhood, Egyptian Communists. israel targeted innocent people as usual.

As Carlos says, Israel has a history of false flag events. Then too, the truth may lie somewhere in the middle. Being a Lebanese Shia with a liking for Nasrallah doesn't make you a Hezbollah operative -- but some might identify you as such. It's also entirely possible Israel had suborned some group and was both financing and encouraging them to do some such thing -- without the patsies ever realizing who they were REALLY working for. There were a few false notes when that bomb went off.

In general, though, it's worth pointing out that Hezbollah is essentially defensive and extremely provincial in its outlook. It cares about protectingthe interests of the Shia in Lebanon -- full stop. It doesn't even seem to care much about Israel if only Israel will stay out of Lebanon. You can see this as a plus, or see it as a minus -- but it hardly makes Hezbollah a likely candidate when it comes to committing international terrorism.

Outlier # 1- more credibility than Israel. Remember when Israel bombed the shit out of Lebanon, claiming that Hezbollah had "rained down thousands of rockets upon Israel" in the past few months - when not a rocket, not a bullet, had been sent over the border by Hezbollah for the previous 11 months. An Israeli journalist reported this - Uri Avnery. Well yes, Israel lacks credibillty. We hear a lot of Israeli reports which they admit themselves are false, when they consider the time is right.

Whose aspirations are promoted by this event? Follow the money, or follow who gains the advantage, always a reliable indicator of the culprits. Israel or the US wouldn't do such a thing? Sure, and I have fairies living at the bottom of my garden!

If Hezbollah is shown to have some connection they will be branded a terrorist organisation with presumably, certain consequences? What if Israel is shown to be the resposible party? Big fat nothing and no consequences! Double standards.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Lebanese who adhered to Hezbollah who carried out this bombing. I also wouldn't be surprised if those who paid and encouraged them were actually Israeli agents. Probably they were just encouraged to do SOMETHING. I doubt if whoever manipulated them actually specified what they were to do in particular. In fact, maybe they were supposed to get caught.

I do not want to look at whether Hezbollah has any involvement in the killing of some Jewish persons. It is a inquiry that is not worth much commentary. The fact is that Hezbollah has a history of avoiding any attacks on civilian populations, has always limited its military operations to southern Lebanon, and advance no interests by attacking Jews. The same is not true of the Zionists. They regularly kill civilians in cross border attacks, and are defined as a peaceful nation.

Hezbollah in Bulgaria. They didn't have to go that far to blow up a bus. Hezbollah suppose to be in south of Lebanon defending their southern border with Israel. You mean to tell me that the only enemy the Jews have in the world are either Hezbollah or Hamas. Europe has and still have Nazi sympathizers especially in Germany reason enough for me to conclude why Chancelor Merkel put her two pennys worth on something that happened miles away from her country.

ShrleyS: Can you point me in the direction of the evidence to support your claim that : "Iran that it targeted trhe SAUDI AMBASSADOR in US that turned out to be true" .... I believe there was a man convicted but evidence that he was connected to an Iranian terrorist group in any other way than being Iranian born was...... none existent. Furthermore , to claim this is a pro-Iranian website is refuted by the news agencies many anti Assad stories it publishes.
