WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- The United States said on Wednesday it has sanctioned state sponsored broadcasters in Iran for alleged censorship.

The US Treasury Department said it named the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting and its director Ezzatollah Zarghami as subject to sanctions. US law permits the agency to sanction anybody in Iran it believes restricts the flow of information to the Iranian public.

Washington is tightening sanctions on Iran's access to its oil revenues in an effort to slow its nuclear program, which the West believes is aiming to develop weapons. Iran says the program is solely for civilian purposes.

Dear Patricia, I agree with you 100%. I get my news for the US from RT, Al Jazeera, Press TV, Link TV, FSTV and Current TV. I am like the Eastern Europeans during the cold war would listen to radio free europe. The normal US TV stations and newspapers are so biased in US they dont report news unless the demographic wants to hear this particular news and if the corporate censors approve the story. I am embarassed US news orgs but our government is worse it commits war crime after war crime.
