Israel 'pays settler 1.3 million shekels' for damage to West Bank land

TEL AVIV, Israel (Ma'an) -- Israel has given a settler convicted of anti-Palestinian attacks over 1.3 million shekels in compensation for damages to Palestinian land in the West Bank, Israeli media reported Wednesday.
Menachem Livni was found guilty of perpetrating a 1983 attack in Hebron which killed three Palestinian students and wounded 33 others, and of trying to assassinate Palestinian officials He spent less than seven years in prison.
Livni lives in the illegal Kiryat Arba settlement in Hebron, and farms land in the West Bank village of Bani Naim.
Local Palestinians have attacked the land, and Livni has been awarded around 1,327,123 shekels ($360,600) in damages by the Israeli Tax Authority, the Israeli daily Haaretz reported.
Israeli soldiers protect Livni when he works on the Palestinian land, Haaretz said.
He is now suing Israel for failing to investigate his complaints to police, and seeking further payment, the report said.
