AMSTERDAM (Reuters) -- A photograph of two dead children, who were killed in an Israeli missile strike near Gaza City, won the top World Press Photo prize on Friday for Swedish photographer Paul Hansen of newspaper Dagens Nyheter.

The photograph shows a group of men bearing the bodies of two-year-old Suhaib Hijazi and her brother Muhammad, 3, as they were taken to the mosque for a burial ceremony. Their parents were killed in the same strike.

"The strength of the picture lies in the way it contrasts the anger and sorrow of the adults with the innocence of the children," Mayu Mohanna, a member of the jury, said of the photograph which was named World Press Photo of the Year 2012.

Ammar Awad of Reuters received an honorable mention in the General News single category for his photograph "Israeli Border Police Pepper spray Palestinian Protester".

Found it! http://www.google.com/url?q=http://medya.todayszaman.com/todayszaman/2012/11/24/gazaschool.jpg&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNFBW0FOK-8iTKWSzM2WED7XL33-DQ Now this one I prefer. No offense, but it doesn't tread old ground. On the contrary, it suggests the certainty of final victory.

This is disturbing for me. But I do hope more people will see how Israel really commits evil, sadistic acts against humanity.

#1 "Found it!" Do you mean the one from "Today's Zaman" of children with colourful umbrellas going back to school through a kind of desolate, scorched, Dresdenesque landscape? (You old softie Colin.)

It's also only 1 among THOUSANDS of horrific photo's taken by brave Arab photo-journalists archiving Zionism's-Israel's genocidal atrocities against the Palestinian people-since 1947 to 2013-that they could actually show,w/out the global consensus FINALLY DRAGGING Israel to the ICC,ICJ/ Hague for WAR CRIMES,CRIMES AGAINST PEACE,UNIV.HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES,TORTURE,on Israel's below-the-US-radar Zio-holocaust of Palestine's 70yr trail of tears!HOW TO CHOOSE 1? http://nogw.com/israeliatrocities.html

To ian #3 '#1 "Found it!" ...(You old softie Colin.)' That's the guy. Otherwise, yeah -- I am occasionally susceptible to sentiment. But seriously, folks -- the picture does sum up why the Zionists can never win. The Palestinians are just going keep being...there. No matter how tightly Israel cages them.

The little dead children lined up on the carpet are in my opinion the most heart wrenching. Something so mundane as the carpet along the hall in the hospital with the little still innocent faces, life's most wrenching horror, little dead children bodies. There is something in that picture that brings the concept home. Maybe it's the hospital hallway.
